Denis Cooke

Denis Aubrey Cooke, a member of the former South Wales Branch died on 15th December, 2015 aged 92. Denis was Leading Seaman and Coxwain on ML 187, ML 223 and HDML 1066, all three boats being based at Freetown, Sierra Leone in West Africa. ML 187 was part of the 11th ML Flotilla there, while HDML 1066 was with the 108th ML Flotilla. Born in Cardiff, Denis was brought up in the Canton district in the west of Cardiff. After the war he worked for Cory Ship Towage in Cardiff and then Milford Haven, where he moved in 1960. Married to Margaret Florence Dean of Cardiff, he leaves behind children; Elizabeth, Simon and Louise and grandchildren, Evan, Robert, Louise and great-grandson Joshua.
